Trauma-Informed Practices for Early Childhood Educators is an essential guide for child care providers and early educators working with young children. This comprehensive resource delves into understanding trauma and its profound impact on early childhood development, specifically focusing on the developing brains, behaviors, learning, and overall development of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary-aged children.

The book introduces a variety of trauma-informed education strategies and family engagement practices designed to create supportive, strength-based environments that foster healing and resilience in young children. Key topics include the neurobiology of trauma, creating trauma-sensitive programs, and effective case studies that highlight practical applications in real-world scenarios.

Moreover, it emphasizes the importance of educator self-care to prevent burnout and maintain their ability to support children effectively. Through relationship-based approaches, this book aims to equip educators with the knowledge and tools necessary to nurture and heal young minds, ultimately building a foundation for lifelong resilience.

This is such a great book. I’m the Education, Disability, Mental health Manager for aHead Start program. Part of my job includes supporting and coaching teachers to understand the teaching strategies that support children who have experienced trauma. This book has so much to offer me and them. From understanding what happens in the brain during trauma and how it’s different from other concerns to explaining specific skills like the use of First/Then and creating cozy corners. This book has what I needed to really explain abs develop deeper understanding of how to support children with trauma. It also has Vignettes and scenarios to support discussion and understanding of what teachers can do. Lovely book and easy to read for such a hard copy.

Absolutely amazing book that explains complex ideas, such as the impact of trauma on neurological development in the context of development, family relationship, and experiences in the world. These are complicated ideas to explain in a way that really makes sense and this book does so with eloquence and grace. As an educator, this book explains concepts in ways that all levels of higher ed can plug into--undergrad though doctoral--and come away with a deeper understanding both of the information and how to implement it in their actual behavior and practice. Very highly recommend!!!
