Combining the latest research evidence with the authors’ practical expertise, Helping Children with ADHD offers a complete intervention program for flexibly delivering behavioral and cognitive interventions to children aged 6-12 with ADHD and associated conditions.

  • Redefines and develops best practices in the application of cognitive and behavioral techniques to help children aged 6-12 with ADHD and associated comorbid conditions, including learning difficulties
  • Offers a range of engaging resources within a pragmatic and practically focused approach; the modular structure allows the interventions to be selected and tailored according to the particular age, ability, and needs of the individual child
  • An appendix of entertaining stories about Buzz, a boy with ADHD, provides a structural narrative while also teaching core skills in areas such as keeping calm, planning, managing impulsivity, and dealing with anxiety
  • Straightforward, accessible language allows the techniques to be used by those without expert clinical training; dedicated sections provide advice for using the approach in school, home, and group contexts
  • A companion website provides downloadable materials including illustrated patient worksheets to accompany the narrative stories

A very helpful and well written book which will certainly help any parent who has a child with ADHD. Cognitive behaviour therapy doesn't work for everyone but will certainly help with goal setting and achievements, alternative thoughts etc with many and this book is presented in a very logical and thoughtful way, easily transferable for working with young children. Some very useful exercises and tools and definately worth trying and more importantly, persevering with.

This book is expensive but well worth the investment - backed up with further activities and information online via the website.

In my household we have teaching and health experience and we both found this book useful for our practice. I would have no hesitation in recommending to parents to support them to help both understand and help their child through a world which can be challenging, scary and frustrating.

Easy to read without being condescending.

A must for all those who support children living with ADHD.

In summary this is a very useful resource with clear guidance for professionals, individual and group formats.
It has enough theory and I think it's clinically relevant. A really effective guide.

The guide covers a wide variety of topics that affect children with ADHD, including school performance, social skills, and self-esteem.

I found the advice easy to follow and although it could be considered a 'textbook' it's a very accessible book. Well written and not 'jargony'.

The CBT activities offered in this book are an excellent resource for children, parents, and teachers alike.

Wow. This is a rule comprehensive, well researched and referenced book for anyone managing life with a child with ADHD. It's often misdiagnosed, or even missed ('Naughty' children!) so to have a CBT approach like this can only support children to manage and grow in a world which increasingly stifles individuality.
Lots of practical examples, and reassuring advice, I'd recommend this to parents, teachers, nurses, practitioners - anyone.
